Oracle Streams Schema replication

Oracle Tips by Burleson Consulting

Oracle RAC has always had a latency issue when the RAC nodes are geographically distributed.  In these cases, many shops use Oracle Streams from back-and-forth replication.

The “Oracle Streams” book has a complete step-by-step troubleshooting guide for Streams propagation in a RAC environment.

Oracle Streams is cheaper (licensing costs) than RAC and Oracle Streams allows for back-and-forth replication between two active production servers.  Here is a sample Oracle Streams schema replication job:

BEGIN
DBMS_STREAMS_ADM.MAINTAIN_SCHEMAS(
schema_names => ' cip_history, cip_schema_07',
source_directory_object => 'SOURCE_DIRECTORY',
destination_directory_object => 'DEST_DIRECTORY',
source_database => ' cipgt.gov.com',
destination_database => ' cipprovo.gov.com',
perform_actions => true,
dump_file_name => 'export_ cip2.dmp',
capture_queue_table => 'rep_capture_queue_table',
capture_queue_name => 'rep_capture_queue',
capture_queue_user => NULL,
apply_queue_table => 'rep_dest_queue_table',
apply_queue_name => 'rep_dest_queue',
apply_queue_user => NULL,
capture_name => 'capture_ cip',
propagation_name => 'prop_ cip',
apply_name => 'apply_ cip',
log_file => 'export_ cip2.clg',
bi_directional => true,
include_ddl => true,
instantiation => DBMS_STREAMS_ADM.INSTANTIATION_SCHEMA);
END;
/
