Oracle OFA Rules Changes by release

June 4, 2004

See this link for a full copy of Oracle's Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA) standard.

Also, see these related OFA notes:

  1. Oracle Concepts - OFA Guidelines

  2. Oracle 11g changes to OFA structure

  3. Oracle 10g Optimal Flexible Architecture OFA rules

  4. Oracle Optimal Flexible Architecture (OFA)

  5. Oracle installation OFA tablespaces - installing DBA datafiles

  6. Oracle Disk Usage - OFA

While OFA hasn't really changed in quite some time, it now appears Oracle 10g is implementing a new layer to OFA. For Oracle Database 10g, the OFA recommended Oracle home path has changed.

From the OracleŽ Database Installation Guide 10g Release 1 (10.1) for UNIX Systems: AIX-Based Systems, hp HP-UX PA-RISC (64-bit), hp Tru64 UNIX, Linux x86, and Solaris Operating System (SPARC), the benefits are explained as such,

You can install different products with the same release number in the same Oracle base directory"

"You can install the same product more than once in the same Oracle base directory"
