Question: I need to see a sample
tnsnames.ora file. Is it easy to create a master sample
tnsnames.ora file?
Answer: The Oracle installer generally
places a sample tnsnames.ora file in your
$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin directory, but you can see many
sample tnsnames.ora file for use as a template. Also, see my
important notes on
tuning your tnsnames.ora file.

(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS =
(PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = mydnshostname)(PORT = 1521))

(PORT = 1529)
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = A01)
(GLOBAL_NAME = A01.WORLD)
)
)
TEC.WORLD=
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST
=
(ADDRESS =
(COMMUNITY = TEC.WORLD)
(PROTOCOL = TCP)
(HOST = columbus)
(PORT = 1521)
)
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = TEC)
(GLOBAL_NAME
