Question: How do I open my database
as read-only? I want the entire database to be
read-only and I need the command example script.Answer:
You can make a
read only user and make
read only tablespaces but you can also make the entire
database read-only with an alter command.
SQL> startup mount
ORACLE
instance started.
SQL>
alter database open read only;
Database altered.
SQL> select open_mode from v$database;
OPEN_MODE
----------
READ ONLY
To make it a permanent read-only database you might be able
to place the alter command in a
Oracle startup
trigger.
The Oracle docs offer this example of opening a database in
read-only mode, using a startup trigger:
CREATE OR
REPLACE TRIGGER
manage_service
after startup on database
DECLARE
role VARCHAR(30);
BEGIN
SELECT DATABASE_ROLE INTO
role FROM V$DATABASE;
IF role = 'PRIMARY' THEN
DBMS_SERVICE.START_SERVICE('sales_rw');
ELSE
DBMS_SERVICE.START_SERVICE('sales_ro');
END IF;
END;
