Oracle 11g Real Application Testing (RAT)
Oracle Tips by Burleson Consulting
|
The latest acronym from Oracle 11g
is RAT, Real Application testing, an 11g new feature with a
really interesting acronym.
RAT consists of two components from Oracle
10g:
- SQL Performance Advisor
- Database workload replay
RAT is like a computerized tape
recorder, allowing workload to be captured and replayed for
testing and benchmarking purposes. RAT captures
transactions against the Oracle database (as made by an
application) and allows them to be easily tested. In a
sense, RAT has many of the same features as the Quest "Benchmark
Factory" product.
Oracle corporation says this about Real Applications
Testing:
""Oracle Database 11g Real Application Testing
significantly increases the speed at which we are able to innovate," said
Mike Amble, senior vice president of operations and engineering, Fidelity
National Information Services, Inc.
"By helping to identify key transactions,
extrapolating partial workloads to production workloads and automating
multiple steps in the development process, Oracle Database 11g's Real
Application Testing collapses months of development and testing into days.
As a result, we can quickly deploy incremental
changes to our applications to gain a competitive advantage."
