ORA-27046: file size is not a multiple of logical block size tips

Question: I got this error when trying to start Oracle:

ORA - 00202 : Control file: ' /oradata/cdn/control01.ctl'
ORA- 27046 file size is not a multiple of logical block size

Answer: This looks like control file corruption, common on Windows PC's running Oracle. Did you recently resize a tablespace?

The Oracle docs note this on the ORA-27046 error:

ORA-27046: file size is not a multiple of logical block size

Cause: file size as indicated by stat is not correct, additional information indicates which function encountered the error

Action: verify that the file has not been overwritten or truncated

I would run dbverify to check for corruption, as per the Advanced Oracle Utilities book.

Also, check MOSC. There are several bugs and workarounds for this issue.
