Question: I get the ORA-09925 error when trying to log on to
SQL*Plus:
ERROR:
ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file
Linux-x86_64 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Additional
information: 9925
ORA-01075: you are currently logged on
I also have some files missing.
Answer: The
oerr utility gives this information of the ORA-09925 error:
ORA-09925: Unable to create audit trail file
Cause:
ORACLE was not able to create the file being used to hold
audit trail records.
Action: Check the UNIX
error number for a possible operating system error. If there is no
error, contact ORACLE customer support.
This error message occurs when it can not find audit directory.
This ORA-09925 is often correct permission to access the
audit_file_dest directory. The ORA-09925 can also be
caused by an out-of-space issue.
There is a note 69642.1 on
MOSC
that lists 4 possible causes for this ORA-009925 error.
All of the error relwte to file ans directory permissions not
allowing writes to the files (i.e. chmod 760):
1) AUDIT_FILE_DEST is not writable (chown
+w $AUDIT_FILE_DEST)
2) $ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/adump exists
but is not writable
3) $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/audit is not writable
Rampant author Laurent Schneider has complete
directions on how to resolve ORA-09925 file errors:
This morning I had to solve an ORA-09925: Unable
to create audit trail file and it was not as straightforward as
usual?
There is a note 69642.1 on Metalink, (which is now up
to date for 10gR2).
1) AUDIT_FILE_DEST is not writable
2)
$ORACLE_BASE/admin/$ORACLE_SID/adump exists and is not writable
3) $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/audit is not writable
