Supported Linux for Oracle Tips

Oracle Linux Tips by Donald BurlesonDecember 14, 2015

Hardware Supported by Linux OS

Oracle gives support on x86, x86-64, and ia64 architecture-based hardware running Linux. All hardware platforms that are certified by Red Hat for RHEL3, RHEL4 and RHEL5 for x86, x86-64, ia64 (starts with Release 4 Update 6) architectures are supported by Oracle.

Oracle certifies the following Linux distributions as Oracle RDBMS 10g-supported.  For the Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 10g on Linux, there is the following support matrix:

Linux OS Supported

SLES-9

SLES-10

Red Hat Enterprise AS/ES 5

Red Hat Enterprise AS/ES 4

Red Hat Enterprise AS/ES 3

Linux OS Supported

Oracle Enterprise Linux 5/Oracle VM

Oracle Enterprise Linux 4/Oracle VM

Asianux Server 3

Asianux 2.0

Asianux 1.0

Oracle supports the Asianux-based distribution from Miracle Linux release 4.0 and higher (www.miraclelinux.com) and Red Flag DC server 5.0 and higher releases.

For more information on supported Linux distributions and the updated certification list, consult Metalink in the certify section and also read the note 266043.1 with the subject Support of Linux and Oracle Products on Linux.

Oracle does not certify hardware, but only OS platforms or drivers that the OS vendor supports, as announced previously. However, some details can be found on the hardware configurations that are certified or compatible with Enterprise Linux by consulting the website http://linux.oracle.com/hardware. On the same site there is also information about the Support of Oracle Virtual Machine and all hardware systems considered certified or compatible by Red Hat Incorporated.

The following table, 1.2., gives a list of the Oracle certified Linux distributions and the sites where they can be downloaded:
