Question: I want
to know of my installation of an Oracle client is 32 bit or 64 bit.
How can you tell if a PC client is running 32bit or 64bit Oracle
client installation?
Answer: There are two areas; checking the PC
client and checking the Oracle client software installation.
Checking PC client: Because a 64
client will not run on a 32 bit PC, you can check to see if the PC
is 32 or 64 bit in Windows in:
control panel ==> system
operating system 64 bit operating system
In cases where you have a 32-bit on a 64-bit PC, you can check
in installation directory to see of the PC client installation is 32
or 64 bit..
Checking Oracle client software: There are
three methods for checking the Oracle client software. Windows has a different
lib directory for 32-bit software and 64-bit
software. The fastest way to see if an Oracle Client is 64bit
or 32bit, too look for "lib32" and "lib" folders under ORACLE_HOME.
If the Oracle Client is 32 bit, it will contain a "lib" folder;
but if it is a 64 bit Oracle Client it will have both "lib" and "lib32"
folders.
Also, starting in Oracle 11.2.0.1, the client
version for 64-bit and the Oracle client for 32-bit are shipped
separately, and there is an $ORACLE_HOME/lib64 directory.
$ORACLE_HOME/lib/ ==> 32
bit
$ORACLE_HOME/lib64 ==> 64 bit
Or
$ORACLE_HOME/lib/ ==> 64 bit
$ORACLE_HOME/lib32 ==> 32 bit
