Oracle8i Desupport

Oracle Tips by Burleson Consulting
November 4, 2003

Many people are not aware that Oracle will de-support Oracle8i on 12/31/03.

For assistance with your Oracle9i migration

call Burleson at

 800 - 766 - 1884

or email us at .

Oracle has a two-phase de-support consisting of Error Correction Support (ECS) and Extended Assistance Support (EAS).  For those not familiar with ECS and EAS, Oracle de-support begins with a withdrawal of ECS, where bug fixes and back-ports of bug fixes are withdrawn.

The EAS service consists of answering questions and assisting in planning an upgrade of Oracle, and suggesting workarounds (when applicable) for problems.

Oracle 8.1.5 and 8.1.6 have already been desupported for error correction services, and Oracle 8.1.7 will be de-supported on 12/31/2003.

In sum, if you have a mission-critical application and need error correction support from Oracle, you should start planning your migration to Oracle9i before December.

For more information on upgrading to Oracle9i, see my book Oracle Tuning: The Definitive Reference by Rampant TechPress.  Its only $41.95(I dont think it is right to charge a fortune for books!) and you can buy it right now at this link:

http://www.rampant-books.com/book_2005_1_awr_proactive_tuning.htm

If you need immediate consulting assistance in getting migrated to Oracle9i before the desupport date, Please call Burleson Consulting at 252-431-0049.
