Viewing Linux Files with the
cat command
To simply see the contents of a file, use the cat command.
$ cat

Much of what is needed to manage the Linux system and the
databases is best done on the command line. The commands there are
often the most powerful, flexible and consistent ones available.
The cat commandprints the
contents of the file to the screen, but cat is actually designed
to concatenate multiple files and display them as if they were
one, hence the name. To use cat this way, give cat multiple file
names as arguments.

Before installing Oracle, the Linux system needs to be
customized to meet certain requirements. This involves installing
software and customizing some settings. Another thing to note is
as it just prints the entire file to the screen without any
control to page through it, cat becomes less useful when viewing
large files. One of the most popular commands to view larger
files is more.
