Question: What do
I do to fix the ORA-06564 error when creating an external
table?
ORA-06564: object EXT_DIR does not
exist
Answer: The oerr utility shows
this for the ORA-06564 error:
ORA-06564: object
string does not exist
Cause: The
named object could not be found. Either it does not exist or
you do not have permission to access it.
Action: Create the object or get permission to
access it.
In this case you attempted to create an external table
with a directory does not exist. the solution is to
issue the appropriate "create directory" command to create
the missing directory.
select * from dba_directories where
directory_name='EXT_DIR';
For generic errors, this is usually specified when a
table does not exist.
