Technological Feasibility Study Oracle Tips by Burleson Consulting The Data Warehouse Development Life Cycle The Feasibility Study The feasibility study is the phase of a data warehouse project with the smallest amount of overall effort. This is to be expected because the cost/benefit analysis for a proposed system can be done fairly quickly by a few qualified analysts. However, the speed of the delivery of a feasibility study should not minimize the importance of this phase. All computer systems must deliver a benefit relative to their costs, and this phase determines the payback period for the effort. The first phase of any warehouse development project is the assessment of feasibility. In general, a feasibility study addresses the following two components: * Technological Feasibility Analysis--Answers the question, “Are the requirements for the system achievable with current technology?” * Economic Feasibility Analysis--Answers the question, “Will the return on investment warrant the development of the warehouse?” This is an excerpt from "High Performance Data Warehousing", copyright 1997.
