Question: I am getting
the a shared memory segment exists error:
to allocate string bytes of shared
My instance has crashed and I can see the
shared memory segment RAM till exists
How to I remove RAM from the HEAP, in Windows?
Answer: The difference
between 32bit and 64bit Windows is obviously address space. The big
thing to look out for here is that 32bit Windows limits you to 2GB
for the SGA and ALL the other Oracle support jobs AND user jobs for
an Oracle Instance.
If you are unaware of this on a 32-bit Oracle
Windows Server and you attempt to increase the SGA beyond 2GB, you
will get ORA-27102 out of memory errors.
If you can, the fastest and most reliable
solution s to bounce the Windows server. Otherwise, shared
memory can be displayed and deleted in the Windows control panel.
Also note that elderly 32-bit Windows is
different from 64-bit Windows because you can address 2**64 bytes
for RAM in 64-bit Windows.. In old 32-bit Windows you can only
address 2**32 (about 3 gig) and you need
Window extension) or the 4GT tool.
