Answer: The threaded_execution
parameter allows a single O/S process with utilize multiple
Oracle processes. Some other O/S platforms (e.g.
Windows) already use a threaded mode, allowing the OS to
control the dispatching of Oracle processes.
The default for
threaded_execution=false and it may not be read for
prime-time in Oracle 12c. To see how threaded
execution works, consider the following example:
SQL> alter system set
threaded_execution=TRUE scope=both;
$ ps -ef|grep -i
ora_
oracle xxx - 00:00:00
ora_pmon_mydb12c
oracle xxx - 00:00:00 ora_psp0_mydb12c
oracle xxx - 00:00:00 ora_vktm_mydb12c
oracle xxx - 00:00:00 ora_u004_mydb12c
oracle xxx - 00:00:00 ora_u005_mydb12c
oracle xxx - 00:00:00 ora_dbw0_mydb12c
Notice that the number of background
processes has dropped dramatically, with SMON and ARCH
disappearing. However, we still see
VKTM. the virtual keeper of time
provides wall-clock time and reference time for other
sessions/processes and PSP0, the process spawner process.
