How to store an MS Word doc in Oracle

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonDecember 28, 2015

Question: I want to store a Microsoft Word doc into an Oracle table.  How do I define a table to hold a Word doc, and what insert syntax do I use to load the Word doc into Oracle?

Answer:  You must first define a suitable table, using a large object column (CLOB usually), but there are special procedures for inserting the rows into Oracle.

Storing Word documents into Oracle

This link shows a method for creating MS-Word docs from Oracle table data rows.

bfile_loc := BFILENAME('DOC_DIR', in_doc);
  my_docs (doc_id, bfile_loc, doc_title)
  VALUES (1, bfile_loc, in_doc);
SELECT doc_blob INTO temp_blob
  FROM my_docs WHERE doc_id = in_id
  (temp_blob, bfile_loc, Bytes_to_load);
