Have
Security Arrangements in Place
The IT manager should take precautions by making
security arrangements prior to the act of dismissal. Having to
take immediate actions in response to a violent attack without a
supporting security infrastructure that is familiarized and activated
could have very negative consequences.
The manager must be proactive in reviewing the
securityprocedures
of the company, having the security department phone number on hand,
notifying security personnel of the time and location of the
dismissal, and making known to security the approximate time they will
be asked to escort the fired employee of company premises.
If the manager notices the employee who is being
fired is starting to get worked up, he or she can either inform the
employee that security
personnel are on standby and can be called into the meeting, or
immediately call security into the room if events are unraveling
rapidly.
It would be advantageous to have another company
representative present during the firing such as Human Resources
or security personnel. This arrangement reduces the chances that the
employee will become violent since he or she is outnumbered and there
is a witness to any attacks.
Any threats made against other employees should
prompt the manager to take precautions for those individuals such as
providing escorts for the targeted individuals to their cars on
company property for a period of time.
