Be Aware
of Trigger Points of the Employee to be Fired
All managers should stay in tune with and get to
know their IT staff more than strictly at the business level. Most
employees have trigger points that set them
off to varying degrees. Knowing how employees react to certain words,
intonations, settings, and events will enable the manager to better
prepare the employment termination plan to minimize any adverse
responses.
If a database administrator flies off the handle
whenever he or she is confronted on issues by the immediate manager,
then perhaps the Human Resources
representative can perform the firing with the manager present. Some
computer professionals are insubordinate by nature, intent on
disregarding the decisions of their manager, and wantonly
disrespectful of authority. These individuals are more calculating and
manipulative in their undesirable behaviors. They have the tendency to
become upset by anyone making decisions at work other than themselves,
most notably their manager. Firing these individuals is in their
minds, the ultimate disgrace since they have no power or control of
the situation. The manager should keep a tight reign on these
disruptive employees well before any incidents occur.
FAST FACT
The National Crime
Victimization Survey (NCVS) has found that workplace assaults
represent 15 percent of all acts of violence in the United States.
