Theft of Records Story
An employee at an insurance company
apparently had a disagreement with his manager. The disgruntled
employee was intent on vindicating the perceived wrong inflicted
upon him. It boiled down to the employee being unhappy with his
compensation rate. Since he worked in the tax department, he had
computer access to the personnel files of all employees. The results
were disastrous. He used the internet to sell the personal records
of the company’s employees. The privacy of their personal
identification information was violated.
To follow up, the employee also attempted to
implicate his manager in the identity theft that he perpetrated by
sending emails to other employees. He finally confessed to the crime
and was fired immediately. Of course, he caused tremendous damage
against thousands of employees.
