The default behavior value is 0 or no archivelog tracing. A value of 7 represents tracing up to level 4.  The log file will show the archival state of redo log files, the status of each archivelog destination, and the operational phases.

These parameters play an important role in the creation and working of standby databases. The standby control file created on the primary site should be copied to the directory pointed by the contol_files parameter. The Oracle instance MRP builds the filename from the log_archive_format parameter and checks the existence of this file in the standby_archive_dest directory.
