Data Guard v$ view tips

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonDecember 9, 2015

The v$ Tools to Monitor Logical Standby Sites

Dynamic performance views are the most commonly used tool for monitoring. The following dynamic views have special purpose in the monitoring process:

  • v$logstdby - The v$logstdby view provides information on individual processes involved in the SQL Apply operation.

  • v$logstdby_stats - The v$logstdby_stats view holds the statistics about the log apply service particularly related to LogMiner activities.

  • v$dataguard_status - The v$logstdby_stats view has information about the overall processes of the standby database. For example, RFS, FAL etc.

Since, unlike the physical standby database, the logical Oracle instance is open for query during the recovery process, there is an option to query static views to extract information about logical standby processes.

In addition to the above-mentioned views specially designed for the logical standby database, the dynamic performance views holding information about LogMiner activities can be used to find out if the SQL Apply operation is performing as expected.
