Oracle Deleting User Error Message

Oracle Tips by Burleson Consulting

Question:

I have deleted user but I am getting its name again in TOAD. If I try to delete it from my Tablespace, it is saying:

Error on line 0
DROP USER "OPS$SBF" CASCADE
ORA-01940: cannot drop a user that is currently connected

I also tried this command:

DROP USER "ops$sbf" CASCADE in TOAD

but it is showing the same error as I mentioned above. Please help me what is wrong with me?

This question posed on 20 July 2005

Answer:

The error tells the tale...make sure there are no active connections from this user. You cannot connect as this user and drop it, you must do that from SYS or SYSTEM or a user with the DROP USER permission. Use the ALTER SYSTEM KILL command to kill any sessions the user currently has, then drop the user. The KILL may take a while to process.
