Question: I'm considering Oracle
certification, and I was wondering about the value of the Oracle
Certified Expert certifications?
Answer: As of 2009, the Oracle Certified
Expert program is quite new, and I've yet to meet an OCE, so I have no
firsthand knowledge of the quality of the OCE holders, which speaks
directly to your question about the value of purchasing an Oracle
Certified Expert SQL certificate.
I think that the term "expert" implies expertise, and I don't know of
any requirement for actual experience. Of course, experience
cannot be measured in the Oracle Certified Expert exam.
Can you be an Expert without experience?
The word "expert" shares its roots with the word "experience", and I
don't think that the OCE exam requires evidence of work experience. Back
in Oracle7 days, the Chauncey Oracle7 Certified DBA program required a
signed statement from your employer, to warrant that the candidate had
enough experience to be considered an "expert" in Oracle database
administration.
See my notes on
becoming an Oracle expert, you don't need the OCE to do it:
