Oracle Button Trigger Exception Error

Oracle Database Tips by Donald Burleson

When the button trigger is pressed it raised a handled exception ora 01400 error occurs.

Please kindly help.

This question posed on 01 November 2005

Well the button trigger did not raise the exception, an insert or update raised the exception.  The 01400 exception happens when a null is inserted (or updated) into a NOT NULL column.

The button trigger may fail, causing a value not to be set, that is then inserted into a table, causing the exception.  The details returned in the error will tell you the schema, table and column that caused the exception.  Make sure that you catch the error in the button trigger and handle it so that non-null values are inserted.  Or check for null before executing the insert (update).
