Oracle10g Grid Computing with RAC
Chapter 9 -Managing and Using Oracle Grid Control

Monitoring RAC with Grid Control

Figure 9.7: Cluster Database Cache Coherency Screen

As you can see, the Cache Coherency Screen provides detailed information about the performance of the RAC environment. This data is updated in real time with a normal update frequency of every 15 seconds. This screen provides drill downs into the standard Top Sessions and Database Locks screens.

In another example, let us look at the general alerts you can see for the RAC database. From the Database Tab, select the database to maintain. The Maintenance screen allows the selection of various options for the database administration (as shown in next screen Fig 9.8).

Figure 9.8: Database Maintenance Options

Another interesting and useful facility is analysis of various metrics for monitoring. From the bottom of the Database Home Page, you can select the ALL Metrics option to manage and analyze the important instance metrics. There are various Metrics that an Agent can monitor. They are shown in the Figure 9.9.

Figure 9.9: List of all the metrics groups

When expanded it shows, the following screen (shown partially in Fig 9.10). Each metrics group has many individual metrics that are very useful for checking the health of the database. Only a sample is shown here.
