Chapter 9 -Managing and Using
Oracle Grid Control
Grid Control
Grid Management Server needs to have Oracle
Database as its repository where the variety of collected data is
stored, analyzed and used for threshold monitoring etc. After
setting up the Grid Oracle Enterprise Management Server (OMS), Grid
Agent software has to be installed on the chosen target. While
installing the agent software, you need to specify the Grid OMS
server to which it communicates.
Figure 9.1 shows Grid Management Server and the
agent architecture

Installation of Grid Control
Server and Agent
Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (OEM
Grid Control) includes the Oracle Management Agent, Oracle
Management Service, and Oracle Management Repository, as well as the
Grid Control Console, a browser-based central console through which
administrators can perform all monitoring, administration, and
configuration tasks for the enterprise.
After ensuring that you have installed and
configured the Grid OMS in the network, install and configure the
Agent on the RAC nodes. We show an example of installing the Grid
Agent software and connecting the Grid OMS. The System or Host where
agent is installed is called a Target System. Besides the host
itself, the resources like Database, Application Service, Web
Application, and Listener running on the host system also become the
targets for the Grid OMS. First install and configure the OMS and
then install the Agent on the target hosts.
