Oracle Secure Backup Utility

Oracle Database Tips by Donald Burleson

The Oracle Secure Backup Utility has just been released.  The Oracle secure backup utility supports RMAN, RAC and Dataguard and offers these features:

  • Oracle Secure Backup has a centralized management component
  • Oracle Secure Backup has two-way server authentication
  • Oracle Secure Backup has SSL data encryption

Oracle also notes these Oracle Secure Backup features:

Unlike other backup products, Oracle Secure Backup encrypts the data before it ever leaves the database. Data in transit and on tape is kept secure as the keys required for decrypting the data are known only to the source database.

Additionally, Oracle Secure Backup features certificate-based authentication of all hosts systems participating in a backup or restore to help prevent outside parties from impersonating an authorized host.

Oracle Secure Backup helps achieve extremely fast database backups. It accomplishes this by directly reading the block layout structures of an Oracle Database and using this information to optimize access to database storage.

Database backups can be managed directly from Oracle's powerful database management console.
