ORA-29807: specified operator does not exist tips

Oracle Error Tips by Stephanie F.

The Oracle docs note this on the ora-29807 error:

ORA-29807: specified operator does not exist
Cause: The operator which has been specified does not exist.
Action: Ensure that the operator that has been specified does exist.

ORA-29807 can occur when trying to create a database using DBCA.  This information is regarding to Oracle Enterprise Edition 9.2, along with Oracle Database Configuration Process.  The symptoms appear as follows:

  • Error during Database Creation Process (DCP)
  • 'drop operator XMLSequence' fails
  • ORA-29807: Specified operator does not exist

Per the documentation about ORA-29807, "A patchset has been installed on the Oracle Server base release" because ORA-29807 has not been masked as ignorable by DBCA.  This document also states that you may simply ignore ORA-29807 as a fix.
