Question: I'm getting the error "ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status" at shutdown time:

Additional information: 4

What causes the "ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status" error?

Answer:  It's a missing file, usually an archived redo log or a parm file:

ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status

Cause: Stat system call returned an error. Additional information indicates
which function encountered the error.

Action: Examine errno.

First, a quick look at the trace file will tell you the exact file name.  The ORA-27037 often happens when you clone a database, and forget to copy a file.

HP-UX Error: 2: No such file or directory

This is a missing file somewhere.

- It could be a missing archivelog file . . . . .
- It could be a file mentioned in your init.ora file . . . .
