ORA-24323: value not allowed tips

Oracle Error Tips by Stephanie F.

The Oracle docs note this on the ora-24323 error:

ORA-24323: value not allowed

Cause: A null value or a bogus value was passed in for a mandatory parameter.

Action: Verify that all mandatory parameters are properly initialized.

On the Oracle DBA Forums, a user states that they are having difficulties resolving ORA-24323 after receiving it following connection to Oracle 8i as internal/Oracle.  The connection returns the following:

Connected to an idle instance.

SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.
ORA-24323: value not allowed
ORA-24323: value not allowed
Error accessing PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE
Warning: Product user profile information not loaded!
You may need to run PUPBLD.SQL as SYSTEM
SP2-0575: Use of Oracle SQL feature not in SQL92 Entry Level.
ORA-24323: value not allowed
ORA-01041: internal error. hostdef extension doesn't exist

After observation, the replier diagnoses the problem as having to do with the spfiles of init.ora files, and suggests this insert:

Something like this: shared_pool_size = 100yes88
