Question: I am doing an RMAN clone and I
am getting this ORA-02236 error:

RMAN-03002: failure of Duplicate Db command at
01/10/2012 17:16:27
RMAN-06136: ORACLE error from auxiliary database: ORA-02236: invalid
file name.
What is the cause of this RMAN-06136 and ORA-02236 invalid file
name error?
Answer: First, review notes on
using RMAN to clone a database. Also, watch this video on
using the
RMAN duplicate command.
The oerr utility shows a simple RMAN syntax error:
oerr
ORA-02236
ORA-02236: invalid file name
Cause: A character string literal was not
used in the filename list of a LOGFILE, DATAFILE, or RENAME
clause.
Action: Use correct syntax.
Oracle does not lie, it is detecting an RMAN syntax error.
I would be expecting to see file names in these places:
LOGFILE
GROUP 1 SIZE 100 M ,
GROUP 2 SIZE 100 M ,
GROUP 3 SIZE 100 M ,
GROUP 4 SIZE 100 M ,
GROUP 5 SIZE 100 M
DATAFILE
'+DATADG/proddb/datafile/system.867.772215399'
Like this:
logfile
group 1 ('/path/to/redo1.log') size 100M,
group 2 ('/path/to/redo2.log') size 100M,
group 3 ('/path/to/redo3.log') size 100M
datafile '/path/to/system.dbf' size 500M
autoextend on next 10M maxsize unlimited extent management local
Using fully-qualified file names should stop the
RMAN-06136 and ORA-02236 errors.
