ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("SYS"."AUDIT_DDL"."DICT_OBJ_TYPE")  tips

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonJuly 11, 2015

Question:  I facing the below issue while enable the audit on table. Please help me.

SQL> audit delete on test;
audit delete on test
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("SYS"."AUDIT_DDL"."DICT_OBJ_TYPE")
ORA-06512: at line 2

How do I correct the ORA-01400 error on the AUDIT_DDL>DICT_OBJ_TYPE column?

Answer:  These steps will ensure that you do not get the ORA-01400 error:

- First, verify the initialization parameter "audit_trail = true" and run the cataudit.sql scripts (as SYS).

- Next, disable the trigger:

SQL> ALTER TRIGGER SYS.AUDIT_DDL DISABLE;
Trigger altered.

- Then execute sys.ddl modify:

SQL> alter table sys.audit_ddl modify(dict_obj_type null);
Table altered.

SQL> show parameter db_name;
NAME TYPE VALUE
------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
db_name string PWHSE040

SQL> audit delete on p09844.test;
audit delete on p209844.test
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00604: error occurred at recursive SQL level 1
ORA-01400: cannot insert NULL into ("SYS"."AUDIT_DDL"."DICT_OBJ_TYPE")
ORA-06512: at line 2

SQL> ALTER TRIGGER SYS.AUDIT_DDL DISABLE;
Trigger altered.

SQL> alter table sys.audit_ddl modify(dict_obj_type null);
Table altered.

SQL> ALTER TRIGGER SYS.AUDIT_DDL enable;
Trigger altered.

SQL> audit delete on p09844.test;
Audit succeeded.

SQL> noaudit delete on p09844.test;
Noaudit succeeded.
