Read-only OEM Tips

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonJune 16, 2015

Question:  I want to create  read-only user so tht my end-users can use OEM without updating anything.  How do you create a read-only view using OEM?

Answer:  Prem Kumar lists the steps to create a read-only implementation of Oracle Enterprise Manager.

1. Logon to Grid Control as a super admin user (SYSMAN or equivalent)

2. Click on the links: Setup -> Administrators -> Click on Create

3. Remove the 'PUBLIC ROLE' that is listed by default

4. Under Create Administrator: System Privileges, grant system privilege "VIEW ANY TARGET" if you want the user to be able to view all the targets.

5. If you want the user to view only specific targets, then do not grant any system privilege to it. Under Create Administrator: Targets, choose all the targets this new admin should be able to view. From version onwards, this option will be available in the 'Target Privileges' page itself.

6. Under Create Administrator: Target Privileges , BATCH ASSIGN Choose 'View'

7. Click Apply.
