Question: What are the location rules
for the Oracle inventory files and how does the Oracle
Universal installer find the inventory? Can we change
the inventory location?
Answer: The Oracle Universal
Installer (OIU) stores information about all Oracle products
that are installed in all Oracle homes on a server, provided
that the product was installed using OUI or with the oraInst
command.
Inventory information is stored in Extensible Markup
Language (XML) format. By default, the OUI inventory is
located in a series of directories within the following
directories:
Oracle Inventory locations
On the Windows platform, OUI first
queries the registry to see if the following Oracle home
setting is present:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ==> Software ==> Oracle ==> inst_loc
var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc
One common question s
whether local inventory always reside inside $ORACLE_BASE?
You can change it, there is a parameter in /etc (or
/var/opt/oracle)
cat /var/opt/oracle/oraInst.loc
inventory_loc=/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory inst_group=oinstall
