Gross State Domestic Product
Oracle Tips by Burleson Consulting |
When comparing technology markets it's useful to compare their
"gross product" metrics, specifically the
Gross State Product (GSP) and the Gross National Product
(GNP) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Here is a map based on market sizes:
In the examples below we can compare market sizes with
interesting results. For example, we see market sizes
based on economic output. Here are some rough equalities
of purchasing power comparing countries with states. These
are surprising numbers, such as the GNP of the United Kingdom is
roughly equivalent to that of California, and the market in
Australia is roughly the same size as Pennsylvania:
Australia ~= Pennsylvania
Switzerland ~= Maryland
Belgium ~= Wisconsin
Taiwan ~= North Carolina
India ~= Florida
United Kingdom ~= California
Canada ~= Texas
By
comparing country sizes by GNP instead of population of land
mass we can understand their real disposable income for IT
spending.
