Graphing Oracle SQL output data

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonOctober 26, 2015

Question:  I want to graph the results of a SQL query and I'd like to know the charting options for my data.  What are the different ways to graph Oracledata?

Answer:  There are several ways to plot and graph Oracle output:

Ion - Ion for Oracle is designed specifically for visualizing AWR and STATSPACK performance information.

Excel:  You can use tools like Excel-DB to load-in Oracle data and plot it with the chart wizard.  You can also plot or graph Oracle rows with the Excel chart wizard via cut-and-paste.

Orca - Orca is a Perl plotting tool for Oracle developed by Dr. Blair Zajac.  This freeware tool has been useful for plotting Oracle data.

rrdtool:  The rrdtool utility is an easy way to graph the output from Oracle queries.

gnuplotThis blog shows how you can use GNUPLOT to graph Oracle data:

# Variables
TODAY=$(date +%Y-%m-%d)
# Gather the data
sqlplus -S scott/tiger @graph_it.sql >> conndata$TODAY.txt
# Generate a graphic plot of the SQL result
cat format.gnu | sed s/DATE/$TODAY/ | gnuplot
