Oracle on Google Chrome OS tips

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonJuly 8, 2015

Today Google announced a new contender to Windows, the Google "Chrome OS", a lightweight OS aimed at PC users.

Oracle achieved dominance in the market for running on every known OS from a mainframe to a Mac, so it's only a matter of time before Oracle creates a release of Oracle for Google Chrome OS.

Aimed at the PC market, Google's chrome OS would mainly be a contender against Oracle for Windows which has been plagued with problems.  Normally one of the world's most robust databases, Oracle has not fared well on Windows platforms, an OS that requires patching almost daily and with a horrible track record of unplanned outages.

If Google Chrome OS proves to be robust and stable, this would open-up a whole new world for Oracle, similar to the expansion enjoyed with Oracle for x86 Linux.

Chrome OS has been touted as a "Windows Killer", and it will be available in the 2nd quarter of 2015.  If Chrome OS gains a critical mass of users, Oracle will surely release a database for Chrome OS, helping to nail-down the coffin of the decade-long hate relationship that millions of PC users have with Microsoft.
