Equivalent of UNIX mtime for Windows

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonAugust 12, 2015

Question:  I want to delete my old archived redo logs, and I know that I can use this command in UNIX, using the -mtime parameter:

$ find . -name '*.txt' -mtime -3

How do I remove old archived redo log files in Windows?

Answer (by Mark Sorger):  This being Windows environment, the UNIX mtime concept cant be used here.

In Windows you can also use the 'forfiles' command to do what you need to. For
example, the below command will find all files over three days old and execute the
command specified after -c (in quotes) on the results.

forfiles -p d:\oracle\orcl\archives -m *.* -d-3 -c "cmd /c copy @FILE d:\newarcdest"

Here is the Microsoft technet page on the forfiles command syntax

I recommend Mark's book "Windows for the Oracle DBA".  The scripts in the code depot are more than worth the price of this great book!  Also, in a Windows environment, you can purchase 3rd party UNIX shell environments to write scripts.
