Question: Dynamic memory usage optimization on SOLARIS lays on DISM. Oracle can use this feature with ORADISM. I would like to know if this kind of optimization exists on AIX 7.1 and/or Redhat 6.4 and usable via ORADISM ? Another way to formulate my question is : is oradism used on AIX 7.1 and/or Redhat 6.4 ?

Answer: DISM stands for Dynamic Intimate Shared Memory and it is the Solaris component that allows Automatic memory management on Linux and Solaris.

DISM is turned on by default for Oracle Database 11.2.0.1 on Oracle Solaris, which makes it important for Database Administrators (DBAs) to understand its capabilities and behavior. as it relates to the memory_target parameters.

- Oracle recommends that DISM be turned off by default on SPARC-based servers.
