dba_hist_resource_limit Tips

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonNovember 28, 2015

Question:  I want to be able to track the high water mark of session and Oracle processes and I hear that the dba_hist_resource_limit table can hold the limits for various resources.  Can you show an example of using dba_hist_resource_limit?

Answer:  Yes, dba_hist_resource_limit is a great way to see the high water-mark values of various metrics within Oracle including the high-water marks for sessions and processes.  Also see v$resource_limit.

Here is an example query using dba_hist_resource_limit:  It reports only on these metrics

  • enqueue_locks

  • max_rollback_segments

  • processes

  • sessions

col c1 heading 'Resource|Name'       format a15
col c2 heading 'Current|Utilization' format 999,999,999
col c3 heading 'Max|Utilization'     format 999,999,999

   resource_name c1,
   current_utilization c2,
   max_utilization c3

-- Here is another example of using dba_hist_resource_lkimit

   dba_hist_resource_limit b,
   dba_hist_snapshot a

   a.snap_id = b.snap_id
   b.resource_name = 'sessions'
