Oracle Data Pump expdp export modes

Oracle Database Tips by Donald BurlesonJanuary 3,  2015

Once Oracle superseded the old-fashioned exp utility with the Data pump expdp command line utility we see several new export features.  Also see

Data Pump provides the following export modes:

  • Full Level Export - By specifying "FULL=Y" you can export your entire database, including user ID's and tablespace definitions.

  • Schema Level Export - By specifying "SCHEMAS=schema1, schema2 . .  schemaN, you can export full schemas, along with the associated USER ID definition.

  • Table Level Export - By specifying "TABLES=table1, table2, tableN, you can export a table and all of it's dependent objects.

  • Tablespace Level Export - By specifying "TABLESPACES=tablespace1, tablespace2, . . . tablespaceN, you can export an entire tablespace and all dependent objects in other tablespaces.

  • Transportable Tablespace Level Export - By specifying "TRANSPORT TABLESPACES=tablespace1, tablespace2, . .. tablespaceN, you can export the metadata definition for the transportable tablespace.  With transportable tablespaces, you import this metadata and then copy-in the original tablespace data files from the export database.
