Question: What is the Oracle convert function
and how do I use it to convert character sets. Can you show an
example of the convert function?
Answer: The Oracle convert function can converting a
content file character sets directly in SQL:
select convert('a','utf8','us7ascii') from
dual;
select convert('î','WE8EBCDIC500','US7ASCII'
) from dual;
The convert function is generally used to convert textual data
from one character set to another. Below we use the Oracle
convert function to change "unprintable" English alphabetic
characters to US equivalents:
select convert('Ä Ê Í Õ Ø A B
C D E','US7ASCII','WE8ISO8859P1') from dual;
