Question: How do I use the
aq_tm_processes parameter in Oracle? What purpose is
aq_tm_processes?
Answer: The
aq_tm_processes parameter is used in advanced
queuing applications (e.g. Oracle Streams) to control the
time monitor on queued messages, and Oracle strongly
recommends leaving aq_tm_processes alone and allow
Oracle to auto-tune the processes.
There is a related wait event associated
with this parameter "Streams AQ: qmn coordinator waiting for
slave to start", but changing the default value can lead to
extreme problems with advanced queuing, especially Oracle
Streams.
When migrating to Oracle 10g and beyond,
you have have a setting for aq_tm_processes, and you want to
remove this parameter and this will enable Oracle to manage
automatically how many processes will watch in your
persistent and buffered queues.
