Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant (EMCA)

emca command

The Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant (EMCA) provides the DBA a utility for configuring Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM) for an instance. Of course, the Database Configuration Assistant offers that choice graphical when initially creating the database. However, it may happen that it is not chosen and then later needs adding. The emca utility is run as a command line invocation as shown here:

 $ emca [operation] [mode] [type] [flags] [parameters]


Only certain combinations of emca command operations, modes and types are valid.

The most common use case scenarios include:

1.      To configure the database control for a database, the syntax is as follows:

$ emca -config dbcontrol db [-repos (create | recreate)] [-cluster] [-silent] [-backup] [parameters]

2.      To configure the central agent management for a database or an ASM instance, the syntax is as follows:

$ emca -config centralAgent (db | asm) [-cluster] [-silent] [parameters]

3.      To configure both the database control and central agent management for a database, the syntax is as follows:

$ emca -config all db [-repos (create | recreate)] [-cluster] [-silent] [-backup] [parameters]


Where the parameters are:

-respFile

Parameter input file

-SID

The database SID

-PORT

Listener port

-ORACLE_HOME

Oracle home path for database

-LISTENER_OH

Oracle home path where listener run

-HOST_USER

Host user name

-HOST_USER_PWD

Host password

-BACKUP_SCHEDULE

Daily backup schedule "HH:MM"

-EMAIL_ADDRESS

Notifications email address

-MAIL_SERVER_NAME

Notifications outgoing mail server

-ASM_OH

Oracle home for ASM

-ASM_SID

The ASM SID

-ASM_PORT

Listener port for ASM

-ASM_USER_ROLE

User role to connect to ASM instance

-ASM_USER_NAME

User name to connect to ASM instance

-ASM_USER_PWD

Password to connect to ASM instance

-DBSNMP_PWD

Password for DBSNMP user

-SYSMAN_PWD

Password for SYSMAN user

-SYS_PWD

Password for SYS user

-SRC_OH

Oracle home path for OEM database

-DBCONTROL_HTTP_PORT

Port to display OEM console

-AGENT_PORT

Port for Management Agent

-RMI_PORT

Port for RMI

-JMS_PORT

Port for JMS

-CLUSTER_NAME

Cluster name for RAC database

-DB_UNIQUE_NAME

Unique DB name for RAC database

-SERVICE_NAME

Service name for RAC database

-EM_NODE

RAC node on which db control

-EM_SID_LIST

Comma separated SID list

emctl command 

The Enterprise Manager command line utility (emctl) provides the DBA a method to manage all aspects of the Enterprise Manager console including the OEM console, OEM agent and OMS (Oracle Management Service). The emctl utility is run as a command line invocation as shown here:

$ emctl [operation] [mode] [type] [flags] [parameters]

Relink command

 

UNIX and Linux, the DBA may occasionally find the need to relink the Oracle binaries.
