Question:
After installing
Oracle 10g R2 and Grid Control R1, install was successful.
However, after restarting I was returned errors. I there
any type of grid control post installation steps that I may
be missing?
Answer:
Oracle docs offer a host of information regarding Grid Control
installation and post installation. In particular, you should be sure
to complete these steps after installing Grid Control:
-
Complete
post installation of Grid Control by running root.sh
-
This is
especially important if you have completed a silent installation because
it completes the Oracle Management Agent, Management Services, and
Management Repository databases post-installation.
-
If you have
instead used the interactive mode to install Oracle Enterprise Manager,
you would have ran the root.sh before installation completion.
-
If you used
the cluster installations, you will need to run root.sh
on every host installed.
-
Make sure
parameters and settings are appropriate after installation. Set any that may
not be.
-
Be
accustomed to, and sign up with Oracle MOSC. This is an important
step in your post-installation with Grid Control because it is here that you
will find many valuable resources for patchsets and patches that you might
need.
-
If you are
using Windows systems, you will also need to set the appropriate
credentials so that the Jobs system can work with Enterprise
Manager in order to correctly finish post installation
for Grid Control. This is because LocalSystem
is the default user
for Management Agent services, and in order to submit
jobs, the user has to enable "Log on as a batch job"
privilege.
-
The last
post-installation step after Grid Control and Oracle 10g have been installed
is to configure the ASM Targets and Database for proper monitoring.
This is because initially the Database Home page does not display monitoring
data, and may cause the database to be displayed as down. This being,
you have to first display a DBSNMP password in order to keep the DBSNMP
account unlocked. This is also seen in Automatic Storage Management,
which is why you must also provide the ASM SYS password there.
If you need

and Grid Control, you can view the
