Mary is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and she has a Masters degree in computer science from the University of Colorado.  Mary has over 14 years of database administration experience in Oracle, SQL Server, DB2 and ADABAS. She also has extensive experience as a systems analyst.  Mary is multi-lingual as she speaks Spanish and German fluently. Her proficiency in database administration, internet technologies, data modeling and developing applications enable her to contribute at many levels.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE


 

Lakeland Electric, GIS, Lakeland, FL

Database Administrator, 2002 – 2005

Oracle 8i & 9i DBA for GIS and electric Intel databases.  Provided 7 X 24 support with 99.8% uptime for storm outage databases.  Planned and implemented upgrade to Oracle 9i and 8i from 8i and 7.3.4.  Responsible for 57 Oracle and SQL Server databases on 11 servers.  Created databases to take advantage of 3 Gigabyte tuning and AWE, locally managed system tablespaces, automatic segment space management, undo segments, and multiple buffer pools.  Lead DBA on automated customer telephone system, Cost of Service, Dunn & Bradstreet, Data Warehouse, GIS, Outage Management System, and power plant training implementations.

 

Installed and implemented SQL Server 2000 databases.  Set up disk storage layout, moving tempdb and t_logs for performance.  Set up email send/receive with SQL Server, created backup/recovery strategy, set up replication, automate statistics, and DBCC.  Mentored database analysts in database administration activities providing training, exercises, and task supervision.  Lead DBA on wireless, Power Quality, and Exchange Archive System implementations.

Database Administrator, 1998 - 2001

Oracle 8i Database Administration on PeopleSoft 7.5 Payroll project interfacing with DB2 PeopleSoft HR system for a firm with over thirty thousand employees.  Performed database administration in the three environments of SQL Server, DB2, and Oracle throughout the mission-critical payroll project.  Experience with RMAN, OEM, ksh scripts, crontab, nightly exports, tnsnames, and security.  Tuning efforts reduced key payroll jobs from two hours to 20 minutes.

 

Performed PeopleSoft project migrations, security migrations, and reference data migrations using Data Mover.  Responsible for building, configuring, and running application servers and process schedulers.  Wrote and maintained a Fast Security project using PeopleCode, SQL, and PeopleSoft records and views which reduced response time on Job and Personnel searches from 3 minutes to 10 seconds.

 

County of San Diego, San Diego, CA

Database Specialist, 1988 - 1995

DBA project lead for installation and implementation of San Diego County’s first major ADABAS application, processing property tax information for three County departments.   Performed role of database administrator for seamless ADABAS implementation of payroll system servicing 16,000 employees.

 

Led the DBA team for installation of DB2 and implementation of major transaction processing application controlling over 180 million dollars annually for the department of Revenue and Recovery.  Responsible for creating standards, policies, and procedures.  Led code walk-throughs for program and SQL review.  Directed test cycles, analyzed stress test results, and made tuning recommendations.

 

Lead DBA on VAX based Juvenile Court System for California’s second largest county.  Participated in machine, clustering, DASD, and VMS upgrades.  Informix database administrator for County courts on Honeywell Bull system.

 

Europe (England, Austria, Germany, Holland)

Consultant, 1984 - 1987

Performed business analysis of office procedures, recommending, installing, and implementing systems and mission critical software.  Project lead for implementation of PC-LAN textual database with 50 users.  Supervised three IS professionals, tracking staff and jobs, and delivering products on schedule.

 

Directed technical portion of shared database effort between 14 companies in five countries while supervising programmers in three countries.  Purchased, installed, and tested software and hardware for the PC-based distributed DBMS.  Performed data classification, system design and system analysis, including extensive security analysis, functional analysis, data exchange frequency, and data reliability determination.

 

Project lead at two companies simultaneously providing each project with the coverage and leadership needed, balancing hours, travel, communication and cultural considerations.  Demonstrated proficiency with both virtual teams and virtual environments.   Additional responsibilities: UNIX system administrator, network administrator.
