I'm often
called-upon to assist my clients in choosing the best Oracle job candidate,
and in this tight job market it is no simple task. I most recently
assisted a VP who had over 340 applications for a single Oracle DBA
position!
My challenge was to
wade through these resumes fairly, eliminate sub-optimal candidates, and
assist with the on-site evaluation of the top-5 applicants. When
bombarded with an overwhelming number of candidates, it is extremely
difficult to be both efficient and fair in the job selection process.
My experience is
not unique, and IT managers are struggling with boatloads of candidates for
Oracle professional positions. To aid in the evaluation process, Mike
Ault has created a handy new book called
Conducting the Oracle job
Interview, ($41.95, Rampant TechPress) designed for the IT manager
to allow them to quickly identify the best Oracle professionals, even if
they have limited knowledge of Oracle.
As you may recall,
Mike Ault is the author of 14 books, including the hugely popular "Exam
Cram" study series for the Oracle OCP exam. Mike has channeled is substantial
knowledge into a great guide for the IT manager to help them target just the
right skill sets. The best part of this book is Mike's telephone
interview questions that allow any IT manager to quickly access the skill
level of any Oracle job candidate.
I rarely endorse
Oracle books, but at only $41.95, this one is a real bargain. If you
are an IT manager (or an Oracle job candidate), you might want to check-out
this book:
