That's
right, you can now be a full-fledged DBA with only $1k and two days of
your time. In an article by SearchOracle.com, Sara Cushman notes
mixed feedback on the controversial new Oracle 10g 2 day DBA training
class.

The
2-day Oracle DBA class does not require pre-existing technical; savvy,
except maybe the use of a personal computer. In an article
on ZDNET news, we see some hyperbola on two-day DBAs:

In this
article, Robert Shimp, Oracle's vice president of technology,
was quoted "Oracle 10g also will include features that automate
database administration, which means that ongoing maintenance will be
minimal, he said." . .. "Our tuning and management capabilities
are better than anyone can do by hand," Oracle has also
published an Oracle10g document titled "Oracle Database 2 Day DBA"

DBA Reactions:
Mike Ault, premier Oracle DBA guru,
says it all. "We see the simplified installer running properly,
and the two-day DBA might be right for a very small business.
However, all larger Oracle shops are going to need the power of all
the Oracle enterprise features". This cannot be taught in a
2-day DBA course."
