Oracle just announced the general availability of Oracle10g 32-bit for
Windows. You can download the 10g Windows software here:
http://otn.oracle.com/software/products/database/oracle10g/index.html
The OTN download says that the software will be between 650 to 950
meg.
(At my connection speed, that would take about 3.5 weeks to download.)
Anyway, this is the perfect opportunity for Oracle professionals to
get access to a working copy of Oracle on their PC. This is the most
exciting new release of Oracle in many years and there arte loads of
fantastic new features to explore. Here are the 10g new features that
I’m going to explore on my PC:
-
Professionals with a static IP
address can use Enterprise Manager over the web and access their
database from anywhere in the world.
-
If you have an e-mail gateway, you
can configure EM and the new scheduler to send you messages and
alerts to your e-mail, pager, telephone or your PDA with the new 10g
EM2GO.
-
You can try-out the automatic
database features including Automatic Memory Management (AMM) and
automatic Storage Management (ASM).
-
The artificial intelligence
built-in to the Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (pronounced
"Adam”) and the intelligent SQL Tuning Advisor.
-
The incredible new dba_hist views
that show the time-series performance data captured by the Automated
Workload Repository (AWR) and Active Session History (ASH).
-
Try-out some of the new 10g DBA
scripts.
