DBA to outpace all other IT jobs!
June 6, 2008
Oracle DBA's can rejoice, the market is stronger than ever for
Oracle database administrators with significant real-world job
experience. Oracle certification is becoming far less
important than work experience, according to
eWeek:
"Certifications were created by vendors to sell products.
Once people were trained, these companies ended up with all of
these specialists out there that didn’t work for them but
advocated for them . . .
Certifications
count for zero," one
IT manager at a large retail company told eWEEK, insisting
that they only proved someone was good at taking a test. "They
correlate little with what kind of asset they'd be."
This report shows that Oracle DBA salaries are again up in 2008,
and that the DBA job role will be the strongest of all IT jobs for
the next six years:
"In its annual
salary report, Robert Half Technology recently pinned database
administration and management as one of the key growth niches in
IT, particularly in light of Bureau of Labor Statistics
predictions that this sector will outpace the growth of all
other occupations through 2014."
